There are Netsh wireless show networks and a number of other commands which can be used to make sure that any computer network is up and running and running at its optimal potential. Here is a list of some of the common commands used by network administrators and network security auditing personnel.
First of all you can enter the Netsh command prompt from Windows Command prompt simply by typing 'netsh'. The common help command in Netsh is simple the ? (the question mark). In order to add a particular filter network profile you use the 'add' command. This command will add the specified parameter to computer's wireless interface. In order to connect to any wireless network you use the 'connect' command. Use the 'disconnect' command to get out of the computer network.
If you want to set or change the information related to wireless configuration, you have to use the 'set' command. Then there is the 'dump' command which shall generate a special script and save it. This script carries information about the configuration currently active. You may have to specify the dump location. Then there is 'export' command which is used to export WLAN configuration in XML file format.
In the cases where you want to see the current status information of any given wireless device, you would need to pass the 'show command. You can use the commands with parameters like if you want to see information related to the wireless profiles on the current computer, you would use the 'show profiles' command. You can use other parameters to see signal strength, number of the radio channel on which current connection is active and much more. In a number of cases, you might be encountering problems which are caused by autoconfig facility. In such a case, you can use 'set autoconfig' command. With this command it is possible to start or terminate the Auto Config service of the wireless network. The command is used with the end parameter where the argument yes is passed to startup the autoconfig utility and no to terminate it. Where security is of prime importance, the system administrators need to block the computer from accessing certain networks. This is done using the 'set blockednetworks' command. This command is used with the Display parameter. The command passes either a 'show' argument or a hide argument. Using these Netsh wlan show networks and other commands mentioned here, it is possible to do setup and troubleshooting of various network devices like router, antenna, booster etc. Making support calls would be a thing of past.
